Linux is a free, robust operating system that is nearly virus proof. It was invented in Finland in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. The name, Linux, is a combination of Linus and Unix. Much of its basic design comes from principles established by Unix during the 1970s and 1980s. It began as a free service and still remains free today. There are many variations of Linux available, and its ability to evolve over time is one of its main attractions. There are thousands of applications that can be used within the Linux environment.
In these lessons we’ll go over how to get Linux starting and running on your Windows-based computer using the Virtual Machine. You’ll learn how to use Linux in the Mac environment. You’ll also understand learning in an actual Linux environment. We’ll show you how to use Linux using a cloud or internet provider. We’ll also address using commands within the operating system.
